PCOD

WHAT IS PCOD & PCOS?
Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) / Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
The appearance of bubble-like cysts in the ovary of a woman’s reproductive system causes problems or hindrances in the formation of the ova(eggs).  It leads to irregularities in menstruation, ultimately leading to many health issues like infertility, obesity, and so on.  Multiple types of problems are observed.  Sometimes there is very less bleeding or sometimes the bleeding or spotting continues for about 8 – 10 days after menstruation.  In some cases, menstruation does not occur for about 6 months. A few women get dark spots on their neck, back, and shoulders and on the face. Some women get excessive coarse hair growth on the upper lip, chin, chest, or abdomen.  They develop a masculine look, the skin becomes rough and temperamentally they become frequently irate. They also become indolent and sluggish.

WHY ME?
There are many reasons as per ayurveda and they are particularly related to the lifestyle.  Remaining idle and languid for a long time, excessive screen-time, excessive consumption of fast food, junk food or packed, spicy and oily food, sleeping during the daytime or sleeping till late hours in the morning, and lack of physical activity leads to many disorders like indigestion, acidity, constipation, obesity, etc.   Certain psychological attributes are also associated with this, which include over-ambition, negative thinking, edgy and restless mind, and so on.  But with the help of our tried and trusted birth-month-related treatment plan and panchakarma sanskaras, PCOD can be completely cured.  Besides, we advise and teach certain changes in lifestyle, exercise, meditation, etc. to ensure no recurrence of PCOD.

How can you overcome it?
As per modern medical science certain diabetes-related drugs or HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) are normally given because this disorder is basically related to the Endocrine system.   However, we find extensive research about this problem in the Ayurveda. Ayurveda takes a holistic approach while dealing with this and that’s why we design a unique treatment plan that takes care of the proper functioning of pituitary glands, and metabolism.  This includes the Ayurvedic medicines, virechana, residential panchakarmabeejshuddhi through proper medication and healthy diet, and change in the lifestyle.  With these measures PCOD can be made symptom free and women do not suffer from infertility.

Salient features of Residential Panchakarma camp

Treatment for every patient is exclusively designed and individualized after a thorough study of his or her birth month and season in which he or she was born.  Accordingly, her genetic attributes/body constitution are studied.

Similarly, other aspects such as the profession or occupation of the patient, her lifestyle, the root cause of the disorder,  time span and intensity of health issue, etc. are taken into consideration.    Accordingly, every day 13 – 15 panchakarma treatments are rendered and complete training is imparted to perform yoga, pranayama, and meditation on regular basis.  The consulting doctors also suggest a proper diet plan and an ideal lifestyle.

Considering the type of PCOD, its intensity, and chronic nature we recommend the tenure of residential panchakarma treatment.

The treatment involves the Pancha-bhoutik chikitsa of the patient to determine the history of  patient’s mother’s menstruation tendency.  Similarly, other factors such as the birth-date/birth-month of the patient, her lifestyle, mindset and temperament, whether the patient is married or unmarried etc.  are taken into consideration.  After thorough assessment of these factors, we recommend about 7 days residential panchakarma treatment.  This treatment principally includes niruhaanuvasanmatrabasti panchakarmas because of which there is a weight loss and loss of obesity.  The metabolism of the patient improves and with better hormonal balance the patient improves her health.  The nasya treatment stimulates  the brain cells which helps better hormone production.  The daily lifestyle regimen or vedic dinacharya involves special panchakarma sanskars like dantadhavan (cleansing of teeth), gandushaanjandhoompaanmukhalepshirodhara/talam udvartan, jentak swed, padambhyanga, karnapooran and night time anjan.  This helps to have better detoxification of the body.

To strengthen this further, we teach certain exercises, yogasanas, pranayama, and omkar dhyan which help to have peace and composure of mind.  However, while deciding and designing the treatment, we also take into consideration the age of the patient.  Similarly, the patient is advised about medical, psychological, personal, and interpersonal factors that influence her marital and sexual life.  They are counseled about the functioning of the vagina, ovary, ovule, and breast during sex life.   Special medicated ointments/creams are given to be applied the address the problem of heaviness in the breasts.  These are the extensive treatments that promise great benefits and complete relief from the PCOD problem.
